Daly's Circle K: cutting daytime electricity costs on a forecourt

The project

A forecourt and service station runs pumps, fridges, freezers, lighting and a shop through the day, every day, so electricity is one of its largest and most constant costs.

We fitted commercial solar panels to offset a share of that daytime demand, designed around a live, trading forecourt rather than a site that could be closed for the work.

Because those loads run while the panels are generating, more of the solar electricity can be used on site as it is produced.

What we did

  1. Assessment

    We reviewed the forecourt roof space and the site's daytime electricity use before designing a system around it.

  2. Install

    Commercial solar panels fitted to the site, timed and sequenced around normal trading hours so the forecourt stayed open.

  3. Result

    Lower daytime electricity costs on a site that runs high loads every hour it is open.

  4. Why it works

    Refrigeration and lighting run through daylight hours, so solar generation is used on site and less electricity is bought from the grid.
